Inauguration of The Trade & Commerce Council of India and Mexico by Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Mexico H.E. Mr. Marcelo Ebrard

            The Trade & Commerce Council of India and Mexico (INDMEX) was  inaugurated on 6th December, 2022 by Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Mexico H.E. Mr. Marcelo Ebrard. The event took place at the premises of the  Ministry of External Relations of Mexico (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores SRE) in Mexico City.

  1. Speaking on this occasion, Foreign Minister Ebrard fondly recalled his visit to India and thanked Hon’ble Minister of External Relations of India Dr. S Jaishankar for taking forward the privileged partnership and friendship that India and Mexico share with each other. He noted India’s position in world economy and as a technology leader. He remarked that the new council will lead to further cooperation in sectors such as health, pharmaceuticals and information technology with results already visible in the form of MoU’s signed for exchange of knowledge on immunotherapy to fight cancer and vaccine production.
  1. Ambassador of India to Mexico, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, speaking on this occasion, said that the council comes at an opportune moment when India assumes the presidency of the G-20 and is in line with India’s objectives of promoting a universal sense of one-ness, cutting across various divides.
  1. The event was attended by special invitees which included senior government officials, businesses and trade chambers from both India and Mexico. H.E. Mr. Salvador Caro Cabrera, Deputy in the Lower House of the Parliament of Mexico; Mr. Javier Davila and Mr. Carlos Castillo, Directors General of the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation Development (AMEXCID) and Mr. Jose Padilla, Director in the Ministry of Economic Development of State of Mexico were some of the Government officials from Mexico present on this occasion. Trade chambers such as the Mexican Council of Foreign Trade (COMCE), the Employers Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX) and the Export Import Council of Mexico (ANIERM) also participated in the launch event and assured future cooperation with the newly formed INDMEX.

INDMEX is an initiative of the Embassy of India in Mexico City and is driven by both Indian and Mexican companies with a vision to increase the bilateral trade & investments between India and Mexico, assist in growth of businesses, address sector specific issues, organize business networking and contribute to the overall development of the society. The Embassy is also working towards the greater vision of creating an India- Pan Latin America business council.
